BROSWARM is developing the world’s lightest UAV-optimized holographic ground-penetrating radar for humanitarian mine action. Flying safely above the ground, it detects metallic and plastic-cased landmines and generates 3D subsurface images, enabling contaminated areas to be surveyed remotely before deminers enter the field.

How does your project support peacebuilding and/or conflict resolution efforts in the context of a humanitarian crisis or developmental context?

Landmines can prolong the consequences of war for generations. They prevent displaced people from returning home, keep agricultural land out of production, obstruct infrastructure and reconstruction, and continue killing civilians long after fighting ends. BROSWARM addresses this legacy of conflict by helping contaminated land return to safe civilian and productive use sooner, supporting both human security and long-term economic recovery.

In what ways does your project contribute to the existing PeaceTech ecosystem and research efforts in a compelling way?

BROSWARM introduces a new approach to humanitarian mine action: moving technical survey from slow, personnel-intensive ground operations toward autonomous, data-driven aerial survey. Instead of systematically searching large hazardous areas on the ground, our goal is to identify priority risk zones remotely and direct limited demining resources where threats are most likely, making large-scale technical survey safer and more efficient.

How does your work leverage collaborations and partnerships to unlock new opportunities and maximize impact?

BROSWARM collaborates with the Lithuanian Armed Forces on a pilot project to develop and test the technology under realistic conditions. Their operational expertise helps translate our R&D into practical requirements and relevant validation scenarios.
